Three Congolese suspected fraudsters arrested by Pattaya Police
Three men from the Democratic Republic of Congo who entered Thailand on fake Portuguese Passports have been arrested following a combined effort between Pattaya Police and the Region 2 Transnational Crime Suppression Center. Police Lieutenant General Panya, Commissioner of Region 2 Police led a press conference on Friday to announce the arrest of Mr. Gloire Mukola Mbuyamba aged 33, Mr. Gonavathie Pillay aged 33 and Mr. Nzry Mankasi Heretier aged 31 from Congo who are accused of being involved in a 50 Million Baht money laundering operation. The three men had opened Thai Bank accounts in fake names, using their fake Portuguese Passports, which were confirmed as counterfeit documents by the Portuguese Embassy in Bangkok. The men would receive money from abroad which required “cleaning” and would keep 10% of it as commission before transferring the clean money back out to their colleagues who are located around the world. The three suspects are also accused of running their own internet scams whereby they would persuade individuals to invest in businesses here in Thailand which were in-fact non-existent. Victims would send deposits for new businesses and contact would be broken with the victims as soon as funds were received here in Thailand. The three suspects have been charged with fraud and a number of immigration offences and will be held pending Court proceedings.
