Facebook Employee Pay

Facebook's $74,000-a-year INTERNS: Website lifts the lid on salaries at social network

Facebook millionaires may be down in the dumps after the company's shares nosedived, but its staff already get paid pretty well, with at least 10 roles commanding six figure salaries.

While not in the league of the social networking website's founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg, who remains a billionaire despite losing $5 billion since Facebook's controversial IPO, even the interns are cashed up.

Business Insider has pulled out salary information from Glassdoor to rank the highest paying roles and like most technology companies, senior software engineers are commanding the most coin at Facebook, on a salary of $132,503.

Software engineers - or coders - are the most valuable workers because they turn the ideas fired at them by Zuckerberg and his executive team into reality.

Google also pays its most senior software engineers more than everyone else, according to Business Insider, because they have proven their value to the company.

Product managers get the second highest pay packets - $130,143.

These people make everything come together at Facebook, packaging a product like chat or Timeline that is built from multiple teams and making sure it gets shipped on time.

The website delivers most of its products at a cracking speed so these guys are critical.

Another hugely important factor at Facebook is user interface, which basically means making sure the page look nice.

Zuckerberg tasks some of his best engineers on this and pays them $129,136 for it, to ensure the website attracts users, according to Business Insider.

Three roles - research scientist, engineering manager and machine learning engineer - all command about $123,000 a year.

Research scientists data crunch and use scientific methods to find out what's working and what isn't working while engineering managers are required to build and manage a team of engineers to work on a specific product.

Facebook's business development managers earn $115,000 to keep the company's business operations running smoothly, particularly now it is expanding into new monetization strategies, like payments, Business Insider reported.

Software engineers right out of the gate get six figure salaries, proving how valuable these tech heads are to the company.

At the bottom of the ranking are the account executives, who get paid $62,124 to ensure the website attracts advertisers, who in turn pay most of the company's bills.

Facebook pays its interns a little more than most other tech companies, in an effort to attract young talent that may otherwise choose a more established company like Google. Software engineering interns, for example, earn $74,700.

Facebook's shares floated at $38 but on Friday were worth just $26.99. The fall in the stock has knocked Zuckerberg out of the list of the richest 40 people in the world.
